Biomin manufactures state-of-the-art water filtration media and flocculants for removal of oil, grease, and other organics (i.e. PCBs, PNAH, PCP, and color/tannin) from water. Biomin's products include OilSorb, ColorSorb, Clayfloc, EC-300, and EC-400. Philosophy

Biomin's core philosophy is to manufacture a cost-effective product that gets results. There are a number of companies that produce and/or sell filtration media, but no one company does it quite like Biomin. We are dedicated to not only provide excellent products, but to be a provider of valuable technical information.

We manufacture a product line that has proven itself in both laboratory and field testing. One of Biomin's more well-known products, OilSorb, has an impressive list of benefits and surpasses the operational and cost efficiency of other traditionally-used filtration media. Because we have dedicated so much time and effort in developing OilSorb, we know more about organically-modified clay filtration/adsorption media than our competition. This translates into Biomin being a superior technical resource for customers.

George Alther, Founder & President

George Alther received a Bachelor of Science in Geology from Brock University, St. Catherines, Ontario in 1973, and an MSC in geology from the University of Toledo, Ohio in1975. He worked for Nalco Chemicals Corp as an associate scientist for 2 years in Chicago, then was lab manager for 8 years at the Bentonite division of International Minerals and Chemicals Corp in Detroit.

In 1985, he founded Bentec Inc. manufacturing organically modified clays for the paint and oil drilling industry. In 1991 he converted that company to Biomin, Inc. and has manufactured organoclays for the environmental market ever since.

Mr. Alther has become a world-wide authority on the use of organoclays in water purification, with 7 patents to his name, and has published some 140 articles, about 70 of them peer reviewed. An assortment of these papers is listed on this web site under Articles. Mr. Alther was chosen to write a chapter about Organoclays for a book on groundwater, "Encyclopedia of Water", which is published by John Wiley & Sons in 2005. His CV is available here and as a PDF.
