In 1976 Ed Ellis, a former Exxon Marketing Employee, founded Ocean Petroleum. The young company began with one retail gas station in Ocean City, MD. Shortly thereafter, Ocean Petroleum became an Exxon Branded Fuels Distributor and began to market Exxon branded gasoline and diesel all over the Delmarva Peninsula. Ocean Petroleum added Sunoco in 1991, Amoco/BP in 1996, Citgo in 1999, Mobil in 2009, Crown and Gulf in 2010.

As it grew, Ocean Petroleum worked hard to keep pace with its customers increasingly sophisticated needs. It continuously adopted emerging technologies and added increasingly, sophisticated marketing "know how" to its list of customer services. Over the years Ocean Petroleum has become a source for not only a full slate of branded and unbranded motor fuels at competitive prices, but also provides its customers with guidance in site selection process, design and engineering, zoning and permitting, construction coordination and marketing of fuels, convenience items, as well as beer and wine.

Now Ocean Petroleum proudly serves a diverse range of over one hundred private and public sector customers throughout the Mid-Atlantic region.
